Disney Churros and Chocolate Dipping Sauce Recipe

One of the most popular items sold at both
Disneyland and Disney World
is the Churro.
No one can resist walking past
the cart selling these crispy rods of fried dough
covered in cinnamon sugar.
And don't forget the chocolate sauce for dipping!
Now you can enjoy them at home
with this incredibly easy recipe.
Yum!

Disney Churros
*makes about 16 (6-inch) Churros

Cinnamon Sugar Topping Ingredients:

3/4 cups sugar
2 teaspoons cinnamon

Directions:

Mix cinnamon and sugar in a shallow dish until well incorporated. Set aside.

Dough Ingredients:

1 cup water
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 cup flour

Dough Directions:

In a medium-size saucepan, whisk together: water, salt, sugar and vegetable oil. Bring to a boil and then remove from heat. Slowly add the flour, a little bit at a time while stirring. Mix until the dough forms into a ball. Let cool.

Heat oil in a deep pan on medium-high heat. Line a plate with paper towels. Make an assembly line: the frying pan, the paper towel-lined plate and the cinnamon sugar plate.

Place the cooled dough into a large pastry/cake decorating bag (or gallon-size freezer bag) fitted with a jumbo star-shaped tip (Wilton 1M) if you want it to look like the traditional Churro (or you can simply cut a one-inch tip off the corner of the freezer bag).

Squeeze 6-inch long strips of dough into the hot oil. Cut off the end with a pair of kitchen scissors. Let cook until golden brown. Remove from oil and place on paper towel-lined plate. After a few seconds, transfer to the cinnamon sugar plate and carefully roll in sugar until completely coated. Move to serving dish.

Chocolate Dipping Sauce

Ingredients:

1/2 cup heavy whipping cream
1/8 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup milk chocolate chips (or dark, if you prefer)

Directions:

Heat whipping cream in a small pot until hot, but do not allow to boil. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla. Add in chocolate chips and let them sit for 1 minute to melt. Now, stir until you have a thick, chocolatey sauce. Pour into small containers for dipping Churros. Enjoy!!

Did you know Pirates of the Caribbean opened 46 years ago today?

Here are a few fun facts about my all-time favorite ride at Magic Kingdom:

Pirates of the Caribbean opened in Disneyland on March 18, 1967 and it was the last attraction overseen by Walt Disney. He passed away three months prior to its opening date. It was originally going to be a walk-through wax museum attraction. The ride has been replicated in three other locations: Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World (as pictured above), Tokyo Disneyland and Disneyland Paris. There are slight variations at each location. The ride is best known for its theme song, "Yo Ho, Yo Ho, A Pirates Life for Me", which you'll find yourself singing long after you get off the attraction.

"LeFou's Brew" or "Red's Apple Freeze" Recipe

I first tasted "LeFou's Brew" last month when I was in Disney World
and after the first sip I was hooked!
In all honesty, I expected to hate the drink because
it's such a strange combination of flavors, none of which I'm too fond of:
apple, mango, passionfruit & toasted marshmallow.
Weird, right?
Well, I was SO wrong!
I bought one for my whole family to taste just to see what all the hype was about
and after tasting it, I turned around, went right back into Gaston's Tavern,
got in line and bought 3 more.
Then several days later, when we were in Magic Kingdom again,
we each had another to enjoy while watching "Wishes".
Yes, it's that good!
And I knew immediately I wanted to come home
and share the recipe with all of you...
so here it is!

"LeFou's Brew" (Magic Kingdom) or
AKA "Red's Apple Freeze" (Disney's California Adventure)
*makes 32 ounces

Foam Topping Ingredients:

1 cup heavy whipping cream, cold
4 tablespoons Mango Nectar/Juice (I found this in my grocery store's Mexican Food aisle)
4 tablespoons Passionfruit Juice (I found this in the refrigerated juice section, by orange juice)
3 tablespoons sugar

Foam Topping Directions:

Pour whipping cream into mixing bowl. Add mango and passionfruit juices. Add sugar and beat on high until stiff peaks form (this can take a while and it helps if your mixing bowl has been chilled). Set aside in fridge.

Apple Slush Ingredients:

2 (12 ounce) cans of frozen no-sugar added apple juice concentrate (keep frozen until ready to use)
12 ounces cold water (I just filled one of the empty juice cans for this)
3 squirts (or tablespoons) Torani Toasted Marshmallow Syrup (I found this for less than $5 from this site: lollicupstore.com)

Apple Slush Directions:

Dump both cans of frozen apple juice into a blender. Add water and 3 squirts of the toasted marshmallow syrup. Blend on high for about 10 seconds. You should now have a slush texture beverage. Immediately** pour into glasses and top with prepared foam topping. That's it! Your LeFou's Brew/Red's Apple Freeze is all done. Enjoy (and don't blame me if you're hooked)! :D

**TIP: Disney keeps the mix moving in those rotating slush machines all day. I don't have one of those and more than likely you don't either. With that in mind, don't make your Le Fou's Brew until you are actually ready to serve it. It does not keep, it will begin to separate (and melt).

If you have leftovers, you can always stick it back in the freezer and just blend it again next time you want to enjoy the tasty treat, otherwise, it's best to drink it right away. But, if your family is anything like mine, you probably won't have any leftovers. They were drinking it faster than I could make it!

Nutella Waffle Sandwich Recipe from Sleepy Hollow (Magic Kingdom)

Sleepy Hollow in Magic Kingdom has always been known for their Funnel Cakes
but now they have another treat you won't want to miss:
The Nutella Waffle Sandwich.
Disney takes one of their signature waffles,
slathers it with a generous helping of Nutella Spread
and then piles it a mile high with fresh fruit.
It makes the perfect dessert breakfast!

Nutella Waffle Sandwich from Sleepy Hollow
*makes 4 waffle sandwiches

Ingredients:

5 ounces water
1 egg, lightly beaten
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons butter, melted
fresh blueberries
fresh strawberries, sliced
banana slices

**I highly suggest using Carbon's Golden Malted Waffle Mix. It's the flour Disney uses and it makes a huge difference in the taste. It comes with buttermilk and malt powder already in the mix and that's what gives Disney waffles their distinct (and delicious) flavor. Not to mention that your whole house will smell like Disney! :D

Directions:

Preheat waffle iron.

Whisk egg and water together in large bowl. Stir in vanilla. Add Waffle Mix and sugar. Mix well until lumps are gone. Pour in melted butter and stir.

Ladle batter into preheated waffle iron and close. Let cook until golden brown. Remove carefully and set on plate.

Spread a generous amount of Nutella over the surface of the waffle. Top with fresh fruit. Fold in half (if you can) or serve flat and eat with a fork and knife. Enjoy!!
