The Disney Diner's Newest Episode Featuring Figaro Fries!!

   The newest episode of The Disney Diner is now up! In this episode I show you how to make Figaro Fries from Pinocchio Village Haus in Disney's Magic Kingdom. Despite their overwhelming popularity, Disney decided to discontinue them from the restaurant's menu in 2010. :(

   But no worries because you can still enjoy them at home by following the easy recipe featured below. Enjoy!!

The Disney Diner's Pantry Makeover



   First, let me say that I have been blessed with a huge walk-in pantry. I love that I have a place to keep our food that is separate from our kitchen cabinets (as we previously did in our old house). Now let me tell you that although I like to keep things organized and in their designated places in the rest of my home, I must confess that our pantry has been the exception (well, the garage too). :D

   What I am about to show you is the disaster that was our pantry. It was my "Monica's Closet". If you don't know what I'm talking about let me explain: Did you ever see that episode of 'Friends' when they are trying to find out what the obsessively compulsive Monica is keeping hidden in the hall closet? Well, the friends finally open it to find a huge mountain of clutter! She feels so ashamed. That's how I felt about our pantry but no more!

  So, let me get on with the pictures. But first let me tell you that it is not normally this bad. This photo was taken the day that we brought home our 2-week supply of groceries and were about to head out to Walmart to buy all of the supplies to organize it. So, I told my boys (that are in charge of putting away the groceries) not to worry so much about where to put them because I was just going to come home and take everything down again. Obviously they took my suggestion to heart. lol

How did I ever find anything??

Tsk, tsk, tsk.

I stored all of my cake/cupcake boxes & supplies in the top corner
and always had to have one of the boys help me get them down when I needed them.

We even had our homeschool stuff in here too! :O

Look how everything is in its place!!
I bought all of my organizing tools at Walmart for $1.97 - $3.97 (each piece).

The canisters on top are durable plastic and are great for things like:
flour, sugar, cornmeal, rice, etc.
I think I'm going to buy 2 more for Saltines and Ritz Crackers.


The 2 folding racks are great space-savers for organizing cans.

I purchased varying sizes of baskets for different things:
The red one on the left keeps bags of chips in place while
 the large white one on the right is holding a 10lb sack of potatoes.
And the little one in the middle worked great for packets of
instant cocoa, apple cider, Kool-Aid and tea bags.
This allowed me to throw away all the excess boxes/packages
which added to the clutter.


The red plastic containers are actually dish washtubs.
I found them to be much more economical and
I liked that they were deeper than most other baskets/containers
and easier to clean.


The 3 handled baskets shown above were actually bought at
The Container Store (last year) but I did see Walmart selling
similar containers.

Since this room is also our laundry room,
I stored our laundry products in a separate basket in the bottom corner.

I used a label maker to create labels for each canister.

I did the same for the glass jars I bought.
I filled them with things like:
brown sugar, powdered sugar, oatmeal, chocolate chips, etc.


I think the jars are my favorite.
They make it so much easier to see what we are running out of.
And they are just plain pretty!

Strawberry Cheesecake Shooters Recipe


   Remember when I posted the Oreo Chocolate Pudding Parfait Recipe and told you that I was going to buy some shot glasses and make a strawberry cheesecake variation? I promised that I'd post the recipe and pics and so here they are. Enjoy!!



Strawberry Cheesecake Shooters
*makes 4 shooters



Ingredients:

4 shot glasses (I used 5oz shot glasses)
1 (4-serving size) package Cheesecake flavored Jell-O Instant Pudding Mix
2 cups milk
1 1/2 cups frozen sweetened strawberries*, thawed
1 cup graham cracker crumbs


*If you cannot find pre-sweetened frozen strawberries, simply add 2 tablespoons of sugar to unsweetened strawberries after they have thawed and stir.


Directions:

   Mix pudding packet with milk as directed on package. Set in fridge to chill.


   Place the thawed strawberries in a bowl and mash with potato masher or back of fork. Set aside. Take your graham crackers and process in food processor until finely ground or crush in a Ziploc bag using a rolling pin.


   When pudding has set, it is time to assemble the shooters. First sprinkle a layer of graham cracker crumbs on the bottom of your shooters.


   Next, spoon a layer of the cheesecake pudding on top.




   Add a layer of mashed strawberries.



   Repeat with another layer of grahams then pudding.




   Finally, finish off the top with more strawberries.



   Here is our finished product (you can even add a dollop of whipped cream if you like).

   They were so easy to make and delicious!!






***Bonus Tip: Similar to the tip I mentioned in the Oreo Chocolate Pudding Parfait Recipe I also keep a gallon-size bag of crushed graham cracker crumbs on hand in my pantry at all times. It's great for making pie crusts; cake, cupcake or sundae toppings and you can even mix them into shakes or smoothies.***

Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater: Oreo Milkshake Recipe

Enjoy an Oreo Milkshake as you watch
old B-movie clips at Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater.
And don't forget to ask for a glow-in-the-dark ice cube*.
 
 


Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater: Oreo Milkshake
*serves 1



Ingredients:

4 scoops vanilla ice cream, softened
1 cup milk
2 tablespoons + 1 tablespoon Oreo cookie crumbs*
whipped cream

*Place 4-6 Oreo Cookies in a food processor and process until finely ground - or - place into a Ziploc Freezer Bag and crush with a rolling pin or back of a pan.


Directions:

Place ice cream, milk and 2 tablespoons Oreo crumbs in a blender and blend for 2 minutes until smooth. Pour into glass and serve topped with the remaining 1 tablespoon of Oreo crumbs. Enjoy!

Oreo Chocolate Pudding Parfait Recipe

  
   We ate at a local restaurant the other day and they had these yummy dessert shooters with layers of Oreo cookies, pudding and whipped cream so I decided to make some of my own at home. They were a huge hit!!


Oreo Chocolate Pudding Parfait
*serves 4


Ingredients:

1 (4-serving size) box Chocolate Flavored Instant Pudding Mix
Milk
1 package Oreos (I buy Aldi or Great Value/Walmart brand and no one can tell the difference)
1 (8 oz) tub Cool Whip


Directions:

   Mix pudding with the amount of milk indicated on the package. Set in fridge to chill. Place Oreos in food processor and blend until you have fine crumbs. Or place the cookies in a Ziploc freezer bag and crush with a rolling pin or back of a skillet until crumbled (if you use this method, crumbs will be slightly larger).

   When the pudding is set we can begin assembling the parfaits. Start with the cookie crumbs. Spoon a layer into the bottom of your dish.


   For the second layer, spoon the chocolate pudding on top, covering the crumbs.



   Now add another layer of cookie crumbs.



   Then cover that with a layer of Cool Whip.



   Top that with another layer of chocolate pudding.



   Finish it off with a final layer of the cookie crumbs.



   Here is a side view, showing all the layers of deliciousness!



    The great thing about these is that you can make them earlier in the day, then cover with plastic wrap and set in the fridge until after dinner when your family asks, "What do we have sweet to eat?" Or does just my family ask me that?? :D

   Also, I used glass sundae dishes only because I didn't have any shot glasses. But I am getting some this weekend so that I can make these in smaller portions. This recipe should make about 8-10 dessert shooters, depending on the size of the shot glass. I have ideas for other variations too: Strawberry Cheesecake, Peanut Butter Cup, Banana Pudding, etc.

***Bonus Tip: I always keep a gallon-size Ziploc bag filled with Oreo (or "fake Oreo" as I call them) crumbs in my pantry. It's great to have on hand whenever I make cakes and cupcakes or the kids make sundaes. It's also a great add-in when making shakes in the blender. And it's much cheaper than buying sprinkles!




Chocoholic's Chocolate Pie Recipe


    This recipe is for all of my fellow Chocoholics. It is the most delicious (and easy) homemade chocolate pie! The only chocolate pies I have ever made consisted of chocolate pudding and a graham cracker crust. But now that I have tasted this incredible pie I don't think I will ever go back to making those. The flavor is oh so chocolatey and amazing!!

   So let me tell you a little bit about this recipe: My younger son asked me to make this pie as a movie prop for a scene he was filming but after it was done baking and the smell of chocolate filled the house we decided to eat it. It was soooooooo goood! I had to go back to the store for another can of evaporated milk and make another pie the next day to replace the prop. Then you wanna know what we did after he finished filming the next day? We ate that one too. :D

Chocoholic's Chocolate Pie 

Ingredients:

1 refrigerated pie crust dough (there are usually 2 in the package, you will only need 1)
1 1/2 cups sugar
4 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
4 tablespoons butter, melted.
2 large eggs, beaten
3/4 cup evaporated milk
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon salt
whipped cream (optional)


Directions:

   Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

   Place the pie crust in a 9-inch pie plate and pinch edges. Prick the crust with a fork (to avoid bubbles). Bake empty crust for 15 minutes. Remove from oven and set aside.


   While pie is baking, prepare filling. Pour sugar and cocoa in a large bowl. Whisk together. Add in the melted butter, eggs, evaporated milk, vanilla and salt. Mix well until smooth. Pour into the pie crust shell.



   Cut strips of aluminum foil and cover the edges of the pie crust to avoid burning (or use pie crust shields). Place on middle oven rack and bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes until edges of filling is set but center is still a little jiggly. Remove from oven and let cool completely before cutting. Serve with a dollop of whipped cream. Enjoy!!!

Watch Episode 15 of The Disney Diner featuring Harry Potter's Hot & Cold Butterbeer Recipes!

   It's up! It's up! Check out the newest episode of The Disney Diner featuring two versions of Harry Potter's Butterbeer. Now I know that these are not Disney-related recipes but you can still enjoy the buttery sweetness of the Hot Butterbeer or the fizzy goodness of the Cold Butterbeer. They are both easy to make and absolutely delicious!!

Harry Potter's Hot & Cold Butterbeer Recipes


   Now I know these recipes are definitely not Disney-themed but I thought I'd share them with you anyway. My youngest son is a huge Harry Potter fan and had been asking me to make some Butterbeer and not really knowing what it was made from I decided to search the internet for a recipe. I found tons of recipes and variations of the drink! Some required a long list of ingredients (a few were hard to find) and/or long preparation times. I wanted a simple recipe with items that I could easily find at my local Walmart or grocery store so I came up with my own. In fact, it turned into 2 different recipes, one for the buttery hot beverage (similar to what is shown in the films) and another for the fizzy cold (similar to what is served at Universal Studios' Wizarding World of Harry Potter).

  So although these are not Disney-related, I hope you will make them for your family and enjoy them just the same because they are absolutely delicious! Or as Harry would say "Brilliant!"


FROTH (FOAM)
*makes enough for 4 small mugs

(This froth recipe is the same for both the hot and cold butterbeer.)


Ingredients:

1/2 cup heavy whipping cream
1/4 cup powdered sugar
1 teaspoon Butterscotch-flavored Jell-O Instant Pudding Mix

Directions:

   With an electric mixer (or whisk), mix all the ingredients until soft peaks form and it resembles whipped cream. Set aside.



HOT BUTTERBEER
*makes about 6 cups


Ingredients:

6 cups whole milk
6 tablespoons butterscotch-flavored sundae syrup
10-12 drops yellow food coloring
1 (4-serving size) Butterscotch-flavored Jell-O Instant Pudding Mix (minus the 1 tsp. used in Froth recipe)
prepared Froth (recipe above)

Directions:

   Pour 6 cups of milk into medium-sized saucepan. Turn heat to medium-high. Add in butterscotch syrup and food coloring. Now mix in the butterscotch pudding mix. Stir well until lumps are gone. Keep stirring until pudding has dissolved and liquid is hot. We want the temperature of the butterbeer to be hot but not scalding (similar to hot cocoa).

   Once it is hot, ladle it into your serving mugs. Top with a few spoonfuls of the froth (recipe above) and give it a few minutes for the peaks to settle, creating a foamy layer on top. Now take a sip and wipe off your butterbeer mustache. :D






COLD BUTTERBEER


Ingredients:

cream soda (chilled)
1-2 teaspoons butterscotch-flavored sundae syrup (per mug)
prepared Froth (recipe above)


Directions:

   Pour the chilled cream soda into your glass or mug, leaving about 1-inch at the top for the froth. Add in 1-2 teaspoonfuls (depending on your flavor preference) of the butterscotch syrup and stir well to incorporate. Top it off with the prepared froth and give it a few minutes to settle. 


Now put on your favorite Harry Potter movie and enjoy!!
