With the recent delay in production of the Avatar movies (and reduction from 3 to 2 sequels), the Disney rumor mill has been brewing with information regarding James Cameron's World of Avatar land/attraction at Disney's Animal Kingdom. Due to creative differences between Cameron and Disney's Imagineering Team, it seems that the project has also been delayed.
Coincidentally, rumors surrounding a new Cars Land proposal in Disney's Hollywood Studios have escalated. Cars Land debuted in Disney's California Adventure earlier this year and has been extremely successful in boosting the park's attendance and profits. Word has it that the project has been green lit and will replace both Lights, Motors, Action and the Backlot Tour, both of these attractions are located beyond the Pixar Studios sign and Toy Story Midway Mania. How fitting.
Also fueling the rumors is the fact that Kathy Mangum, the creative executive who led the development of Cars Land at DCA (California) has been reassigned as the new "executive producer" for Disney World (Orlando). She is also vice president of Walt Disney Imagineering. Part of her new position is overseeing all attraction and resort designs at Disney World.
At this point, these are all rumors and speculation but many are from trusted sources, so we will have to wait and see when Disney confirms them. Until then, I'll keep my ear to Mickey's and continue to post updates.
Tell me what you think about all of this? Were you looking forward to seeing an Avatar-themed land in Animal Kingdom or did you think it really didn't fit in with Disney? Are you looking forward to a Cars Land? Post your thoughts in the comments below.
