My Top 25 Christmas Movies List: #21 National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation

National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation (1989)

Now I'm not a fan of any of the "Vacation" movies nor anything from National Lampoon with the exception of Christmas Vacation. It's a silly, family comedy that will have you realizing that no matter what drama unfolds during your holiday celebration it can in no way compare to the many disasters that occur in this film.

It's the story of Clark Griswold, a man that wants nothing more than to give his family the best Christmas ever but due to his perpetual streak of bad luck, the odds are stacked against him.

A series of unfortunate events occur including: the arrival of surprise (uninvited) guests in an old RV, conflict with uptight neighbors, a power outage due to the 25,000 lights Clark has decorated his house with, a too-large Christmas tree with a secret stowaway, an electrocution and a fire. And these are only a few of the disastrous mishaps that Clark is subjected to, the list is quite long.

The movie ends with the arrival of a long awaited Christmas "bonus", a kidnapping and an explosion. You'll just have to watch to see the outrageous events that lead up to the finale. But most of all, Clark realizes that despite all the misfortune that has come his way this holiday season, he was able to achieve his dream of the perfect "Griswold Family Christmas".
