Quick Service -vs- Table Service: What's the Difference?

So you are planning your first trip to Walt Disney World and you keep hearing "quick service" and "table service" whenever you read or ask about the restaurant choices. Or maybe you are contemplating purchasing a Magic Your Way Dining Plan but can't decide between the "Quick Service" or "Plus Dining" plans. Well, I am here to help you.

First, we'll discuss the differences. "Table Service" refers to any dining location where you would make reservations, check in at a podium, be shown to your table by a host then waited upon by a server (Disney refers to all of these people as "Cast Members"). Depending on the service style of the dine location, you will either be given a menu to order from or you will serve yourself at the buffet. Your Cast Member (server) will check on you occasionally and refill your beverages as needed. Then once finished, they will clear your plates and present your bill. That is "Table Service" in WDW.

The term "Quick Service" refers to what we know as "Fast Food" back in the regular world. You walk up to a counter or window and order from the menu posted overhead or on the wall. You pay the cashier up front and wait nearby until your number is called. You retrieve a tray of food then seat yourself and your family at any available table or booth you see.

But of course this is Disney and "Quick Service" is not limited to burgers and chicken strips with a side of fries as we are so often accustomed to in our Fast-Food Nation. In WDW you have a much wider variety of choices for "Quick Service". Of course I will list you a few examples!

In Magic Kingdom, stroll on over to Tomorrowland where you will find Cosmic Ray's Starlight Cafe. This Quick Service location has 4 bays, each with several different menu options. Some options are: Ribs, Wraps, Chicken Ceasar Salad & Veggie Burgers. The best deal here would be the 1/2 Rotisserie Chicken with Mashed Potatoes and a Seasonal Vegetable. Yes, it is considered "Quick Service".

Flame Tree BBQ in Disney's Animal Kingdom is famous for their smoked ribs. You can get a 1/2 Slab with Baked Beans, Corn Muffin and a drink as a "Quick Service" meal. Other items on their menu include: Smoked Turkey Breast, BBQ Beef or Pork Sandwiches and a Barbecue Chicken Salad.

Disney's Hollywood Studios has quite a few options. One location is Toy Story Pizza Planet where you can get Individual-size Pizzas or a Chicken Breast Salad. The ABC Commissary offers Battered Fish and Fries or Chicken Curry with Rice. And let's not forget Toluca Turkey Legs. Just walking by that location your mouth will water. They serve the largest Smoked Turkey Legs I have ever seen!

Epcot probably has the widest variety of "Quick Service" dining. Just about every country in The World Showcase has an option. Everything from Ham & Cheese Quiche at Boulangerie Patisserie in France to Tacos, Rice & Beans at La Cantina de San Angel in Mexico. There are also several quick service restaurants in FutureWorld. Sunshine Seasons inside of The Land Pavilion is somewhat of a food court with something to please everyone's tastebuds and ample seating. You will find selections such as: Mongolian Beef, Sweet & Sour Chicken, Panninis, Flatbread Sandwiches, Roasted Pork Chops, Soups, Salads and let's not even get started on the desserts. And yes, ALL of these choices are what Disney would consider "Quick Service". So you see, you are definitely not limited to a taste-bud numbing plethora of burgers and fries. Just another reason why we call it "The Happiest Place on Earth".
